Jerry Parkin has been a Wendover resident since the early 1980’s when he moved to town to complete a four year electrical contract on a local casino.

First elected to the WREC Board of Directors in 1986, Jerry says, “My goal in running for the board was to keep the electrical rates as low as possible, while keeping the reliable service that our members have grown to expect. I have kept to that goal.”

Jerry has earned the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA ) Certified Credentials for directors. “This education, sponsored by the coop, has helped me make educated decisions affecting the way our coop conducts business. The coop truly believes in keeping board members educated. My goal is to keep the company solvent,” Jerry says.

Jerry grew up in Bountiful, Utah. “I have been married to my lovely wife Dianne for 24 wonderful years. Between us we have raised ten children, and we have a multitude of grandchildren.”

The director’s hobby is raising and riding mules. “Of course I try to involve my children and grandchildren in my hobby.”

Jerry enjoys living in Wendover. “I enjoy the small town atmosphere. I don’t miss the congestion of the Salt Lake City area.”

Director Parkin says his goal is to make WREC members aware of their coop. “A coop has so many advantages over an investor-owned utility, where customers have no say as to how the company is run. I also want all members to realize how important a role they play as members of a coop. Being grass roots advocates, we can keep in touch with our congressmen to let them know how we feel about the energy crisis. I feel this is a key to keeping our rates stable.

“Our commitment to banding together is a key factor in making sure our representatives in Washington know about our concerns. This is everyone’s opportunity to get involved,” Jerry says.

“While we face increased costs in the years ahead, rest assured that your board is constantly working to address keeping rates as low as possible. I have always marveled at the character of all the board members. They are very intelligent, well respected and dedicated people who go out of their way to make sure WREC is run in the most economical way possible. I’m proud to be a part of the team that the member-owners have chosen to represent them. It has been one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done. I look forward to continuing working for the WREC membership,” Director Parkin says.
