"What if I am building a new home?" New homes do not qualify for the “per square foot” rebates on insulation and windows you see advertised because a new home also adds new load to our system. That does not mean we are saying don’t build a new home and we are certainly not saying don’t put an electric furnace in a new home. Electric heat pumps are an extremely efficient option when it comes to a new home and a heat pump gives you efficient central air-conditioning in the summer months as well. What we are saying is if you build a new home with the standards and building materials available today, you should automatically build it as energy efficient as possible. The incentive is in the money you will save by doing it right in the first place. WREC’s conservation program is designed to make an already built home more efficient, because it is requiring us to purchase more electricity than should be needed. |
